This is a picture of Nala before her surgery this morning.
I took her in about 10 to 8 this morning. I kept her home as long as I could and talked to her.
The vet called at 9:30am which made my heart race, but it was just to ask if we wanted the skin tag
that was lower on that leg removed as well and so we did that too.
Then he called around 10:30am to let us know she did well. She was coming out of the surgery well, the stitches went well, her blood work was good. She was slightly anemic, but the vet who performed the surgery said that's normal for Siberian huskies due to their high energy of a working breed. (So, it makes me wonder if that's why Chip and Timber's came back that way too?)
Anyways, back to Nala her liver and kidney levels were good for her age too.
So, we were happy to hear that especially with this mast cell tumor.
The incision is large, but they wanted to make sure they got all of it, so it hopefully doesn't re-grow.
I picked her up after 4pm today and she had do wear a cone home.
She got very worked up about having that on, so I put a t-shirt on her for the night to sleep in.
She is on some pain meds and then the benadryl and Pepcid for the tumor.
She has to go back on the 21st of October to have the one stitch removed on her foot where they removed the skin tag.
Hopefully, later this week we have results of the biopsy from Cornell.
We are being positive that its nothing to worry about.
As for Timber our vet called with the results from Cornell last night and they were normal.
Our vet has been consulting with a specialist online and they feel more that he might be loosing the proteins from his intestines rather then the kidneys.
Our vet gave us 2 options:
1)Go to a specialist who might be able to help or not be able to come up with an answer either and
is costly
or
2)add egg whites to his diet, starting with one a day cooked or boiled and gradually build up to 2 to3 a day and recheck his blood work in several weeks
So, we are going with option two and go from there.
I told our vet Timber has always had odd things that come up with no answers why they happen. She agreed after reading through the 8 years of records on him since we have had him.
Unfortunately, we don't know anything about the first 5years of his life.
Our vet and the specialist she has been consulting with feel he just has old dog kidneys which we understand. Just like when they did xrays a couple of years ago and it showed his lungs to be that way too.
We are just happy to have all our furkids home tonight with us and we are all doing good.
Now, waiting for the results on the biopsy is going to be the biggest challenge for mommy.
Thank you to all of you for the prayers and kind thoughts for Nala and Timber.
Hugs to all of you from Holly and the huskies,
Nala, Boo, Timber, Ariel and Chip
It's good to hear promising news! Will keep them in our thoughts and pray for good results! That is a beautiful photo of Timber! Hugs!
